CISV Portland sent 2 representatives to the USA national conference called CISV In Motion (CIM) in October 2018. Hosted by the Detroit, Michigan chapter, the event brought together CISVers from all 22 CISV USA chapters, and the 4 developing chapters (like us!) to exchange ideas, learn from each other, rock out to Motown music, and more.
The conference theme was The Four Freedoms, inspired by the goals articulated by President Roosevelt in 1941. The Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear are all ideals which align closely to the values of CISV. An excursion to the nearby Henry Ford Museum included a viewing of the exhibition – Enduring Ideals: Rockwell, Roosevelt & the Four Freedoms.
This exhibition was devoted to Rockwell’s iconic depictions of Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms and provided a rare opportunity to see the Four Freedoms paintings together in addition to other works by Rockwell and his contemporaries alongside immersive interactive digital displays and virtual-reality technology.
While attending CIM, our chapter representatives selected our CISV Portland Village Invitation for 2019 to Norway. It was a very inspiring weekend – looking forward to CIM 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia!
